Alex Fatuliaj, co-founder and COO of Simplicity Group, has joined NEAR Base Camp as an official mentor.
NEAR Base Camp is the NEAR Foundation's first dedicated accelerator, built and run with Outlier Ventures. It is a twelve-week programme, and accepted teams receive up to $100,000 in funding alongside $20,000 in service credits through NEAR Horizon. Applications open on 11 May 2023, with the first cohort starting in July.
Where accelerator teams usually stall
Teams arriving at an accelerator are normally strong on product and thin on distribution. They can ship, but they have not worked out who the first thousand users are, whether the token has a job in the business, or which ecosystem partners are worth the calendar time. The build rarely fails; the route to market never gets designed in the first place.
Alex mentors on that side of the problem: token design, positioning, and the order in which a launch happens. The token question comes up in almost every session, because a token that exists because the round needed one has to be propped up with incentives indefinitely, whereas a token with a real job inside the product gets held for what it does.
What Alex brings to the cohort
Alex leads go-to-market and token design work at Simplicity Group, where the practice runs across both: supply mechanics, vesting and emissions on the tokenomics side, and ICP definition, positioning, funnel design and ecosystem integration on the go-to-market side. Base Camp founders get the same frameworks Simplicity uses with retained clients, compressed into one-to-one sessions.
Mentorship at this stage is also a filter. Most early teams are being pulled towards launchpad offers, grant programmes and partnership requests at the same time, and the useful part of a mentor session is usually cutting that list down to the two moves that matter at their current stage rather than adding to it.
