Alex Fatuliaj, co-founder of Simplicity Group, has joined Techstars as a mentor, bringing tokenomics, go-to-market and Web3 experience to the cohort.
What Techstars is
Techstars is one of the longest-running startup accelerators in the world. Each accepted company receives $220,000, made up of $200,000 through an uncapped MFN SAFE and $20,000 through a post-money convertible equity agreement, in exchange for 5% in common stock. There is no fee to join. The programme runs for three months as a full-time sprint, ending in a demo day at around week thirteen in front of an investor audience that typically runs to a hundred or two hundred people.
The numbers behind it are the reason founders apply. Techstars alumni have raised more than $30.4 billion in lifetime capital, and 74% of accelerator companies raise within three years of finishing the programme.
Mentorship is the actual product
Techstars runs on a mentor bench of more than 1,300 active mentors, and the programme is deliberately structured so that founders meet a large number of them in the first weeks before narrowing to the handful who fit the business. The design is unusual and it works, because a founder who has heard the same problem framed six different ways picks the framing that fits their company rather than the one that came from the loudest person in the room.
Alex sits on the go-to-market and token design side of that bench. For Web3 companies in the cohort, the question is usually whether a token belongs in the business at all, and the answer turns on whether the product needs one to function. A token that the product depends on gets held because holding it does something, whereas a token added to a working business becomes a second thing to maintain, with its own holders, its own price expectations and its own governance overhead.
For non-Web3 companies the work is straightforward go-to-market: ICP definition, positioning, and building a funnel that produces repeatable pipeline rather than one good quarter.
Applications for Techstars accelerator programmes are open across its global locations.
