A Workshop at Startup Village Bali

Daniel Malinovski, co-founder of Simplicity Group, hosted a workshop at Superteam Indonesia's Solana Startup Village in Bali on Saturday 16 August 2025, from 2pm to 3pm.

Startup Village is a seven-day residential build sprint held at Samadiya Canggu from 14 to 20 August 2025, with 60 selected builders. It is not a hackathon. Each day is built around one stage of the startup journey, from ideation through to go-to-market, combining workshops, live mentorship and expert sessions before a demo day at the end. Contributors came from protocols, venture firms, infrastructure providers and developer platforms across the Solana ecosystem.

The workshop

Daniel's session covered token design: when a token belongs in a business, how supply and vesting decisions constrain everything that follows, and where founders most often lock themselves into a model they cannot change.

The point the session kept returning to is that tokenomics is not a document produced near launch. Supply schedules, allocation splits and vesting cliffs are published to investors and written into contracts, so by the time the first unlock exposes a flaw the remaining options are all bad ones. A model tested against realistic behaviour before launch costs a few weeks; the same model corrected after launch costs credibility with the people already holding it.

Why this format works

The residential structure changes what a workshop can achieve. In a conference slot, a founder hears an argument and leaves. At Startup Village they hear it at 2pm and are building against it by dinner, with the person who made the argument still in the room to correct the first attempt.

That feedback loop is the same one Simplicity uses in client work, compressed. The token model gets drafted, stress-tested against the ways users actually behave rather than the ways the spreadsheet assumes they will, and revised before anything is committed.
